Water rescue centre « Außenalster »

Modern rescue station with a plain Nordic touch

When every second counts … Every driver knows how to form a rescue lane so that emergency services can get to the accident and help as quickly as possible. In Hamburg, on the Außenalter, the popular recreational and water sports area, the new construction of the central water rescue centre has created the ideal conditions to help water sports enthusiasts in an emergency even faster.

Small but mighty
Despite its size of approx. 110 square metres, the water rescue centre has a lot to offer. The single-storey building designed by SKA Sibylle Kramer Architekten was harmoniously integrated into the existing appearance on the Außenalster. Together with the existing building of the water police, the new building visually forms an appealing unit.

Striking features are the large, modern window frontage with a view of the Außenalster and the surrounding brick tile facade. The building includes viewing areas, the duty room, ancillary rooms such as a rest room, changing rooms and sanitary facilities, as well as technical and storage rooms for all the emergency services involved in water rescue. Thanks to a new jetty, direct access to the Alster was created.

Attention was also paid to sustainability and nature. Built on the basement floor of the water police station, the vegetation with embankment and trees could be spared.

Aesthetic clinker facade
The new building with its brick tile cladding panels nestles harmoniously with the existing building. The aesthetic clarity of the building is emphasised by the horizontal lines of the terracotta-coloured « Cover » brick tiles from Petersen Tegl. The high-quality, handmade brick tiles make the building envelope virtually maintenance-free. But no sustainability without the matching durable sub-structure system.

Best support thanks to the TC110-H profile system
With the TC110-H profile system, the bricks tiles cladding panels were fixed concealed on horizontal carrier rails held by vertical L-shaped and T-shaped aluminium support profiles. The cladding elements are fixed to the carrier profiles using a carrier rail adjusted for the manufacturer. According to thermal loading and demands – the wall brackets are made of aluminium or stainless-steel. The wall brackets can optionally be fitted with an installation aide, which makes fixing and holding the carrier profile possible in order to simply working with them.

If the conditions are right, good work can be done. Thanks to this ensemble, everyone involved can now provide help to people in need all year round in all weather conditions.
