Dormitory for men

The residential building, originally built in the 1950s by the Workers’ Welfare Association, was sold to GWG Lindauer Wohnungsgesellschaft in 2013. As part of the necessary core refurbishment, the housing association was faced with various challenges, particularly in terms of statics and the creation of contemporary living concepts. The architects 1 zu 1 Löffelholz were responsible for the overall planning and enabled an extraordinary renovation of the ageing men’s residential home. The 16 m² flats were also given their own bathroom, a fitted pantry kitchen and basic furnishings consisting of a bed frame, wardrobe, table and chair.

Colour-coordinated facade mix of ceramics and photovoltaics
The existing multi-storey building was given a new visual appearance. The outdated and angled building was transformed into a rectilinear cuboid with a uniform structure. Photovoltaic elements were installed on three sides of the building, which can store surplus electricity and thus contribute to a faster amortisation of the system. The dark grey TONALITY ceramic facade tiles with a slate look harmonise perfectly with the photovoltaic elements.

Sustainable in every respect
The profile system TC110 from SYSTEA was used for the concealed installation of the modern and visually appealing 750 m² facade surface. A particular challenge was the static load transfer into the partially poor anchoring base, which could only be realised with the help of adhesive anchors. The high loads and the mandatory arrangement of the system substructure required intensive coordination between MP Fassadentechnik and SYSTEA.

This is an impressive architectural project that combines tradition and modernity and provides answers to the needs of the housing market.
