New accommodation for Louisenlund boarding school

On the historic campus of Louisenlund boarding school, the Buchenhäuser are an innovative ensemble of residential buildings that combine modern design, sustainable construction and functional requirements to create a compelling architectural whole. The new residential buildings for boarding school students create a high-quality, contemporary living environment that architecturally underscores the school’s educational standards.

The buildings are characterized by their striking facade and roof design, which allows the facade and roof to merge seamlessly into one another.

Full of color

The bold red of the horizontally arranged facade sets a strong accent and thus forms a contrast to the surrounding nature.

The precise lines and rhythmic window layout give the building a dynamic yet harmonious appearance.

The central element of the design was the development of a durable, technically sophisticated, and visually appealing facade solution.

SYSTEA TC110-H-V for brick tile cladding from Vertico

The TC110-H profile system from SYSTEA was used, which enables concealed fixing of Vertico brick panels to a system rail which was designed for these specific brick tiles. This creates a calm, homogeneous surface that perfectly supports the design requirements of the architectural firm LH Architekten Landwehr Henke + Partner mbH.

Facade construction

The rear-ventilated facade was realized with Vertico facade tiles, which are mounted on a substructure of MH system profiles specially adapted for this facade cladding.

The TC110-H profile system‘s concealed fastenings create a particularly clean facade appearance without visible screw connections. This creates a homogeneous overall impression that significantly contributes to the architectural quality of the project.

With a total area of 720 m², the facade was constructed in several stages. The stainless steel wall brackets ensure maximum stability and corrosion resistance – an essential factor for maintaining the long-term value of the facade in the northern German climate zone, which is characterized by higher wind loads and weather conditions. Compared to aluminum wall brackets, the use of stainless steel wall brackets minimizes thermal bridges and thus contributes to the energy efficiency and longevity of the building envelope.

The installation was carried out with great precision and expertise. The skilled craftsmanship ensured that the high technical requirements of the system were met, as were the architects’ design specifications.

Architecture and impact

The architectural firm LH Architekten Landwehr Henke + Partner mbH pursued the goal of creating contemporary architecture that is both functional and atmospheric. The clear façade grid, the deliberate color scheme, and the precise detailing give the Buchenhäuser a special design stringency.

The sub-structure from SYSTEA contributes significantly to the building conveying a high level of quality not only through its form but also through its materiality. The combination of technical precision and design restraint creates a coherent overall picture that integrates harmoniously into the boarding school’s surroundings while at the same time setting an independent architectural accent.

Result

Completed in 2025, the result is a modern residential building that meets high aesthetic and functional standards. The durable and low-maintenance facade ensures a permanently high-quality appearance and is a prime example of the successful combination of architecture and system technology.

The project impressively demonstrates how close cooperation between architects, fabricators, and system manufacturers can result in a facade that is both technically convincing and visually appealing.
